Various Ways You Can Use Vinegar in Your Home

Vinegar for cleaning (and other uses).

You probably already know that vinegar is one of the most affordable, non-toxic, user-friendly, and versatile cleaners. However, some of the ways you can use it around your home might surprise you. Check out the impressive list below.

  • White distilled vinegar: This is best suited for cleaning purposes. Unlike dark-colored vinegar, white vinegar won’t stain your surfaces. It’s, therefore, ideal for cleaning glass, countertops, faucets, appliances, floors, and laundry.
  • Apple cider vinegar: This is touted as a natural remedy for digestive health issues.
  • Ant deterrent: Vinegar is great for deterring ants that may visit your countertops looking for food scraps.
  • Weed killer: Vinegar is a natural weed killer. It can kill your favorite plants, too, so it’s best to apply it directly on weeds rather than spraying.
  • Flower care: Vinegar helps extend the life of your cut flowers. Add a few tablespoons to the water plus a dash of sugar.
  • Pet care: Wipe your dog’s itchy and scaly ears with a vinegar-water solution or eliminate unwanted cats by spraying vinegar around your yard.
  • Car deodorizer: Use vinegar to remove car odors and keep your car smelling fresh. In winter, you can use diluted vinegar to wipe down your windows, keeping them free of frost.
  • Stain removal: Mustard, grass, ketchup, tomato sauce, and underarm deodorant stains are much easier to remove using vinegar. To get rid of these stains, spray a little white vinegar onto the stubborn stain and then wash as usual. Soaking whites in the vinegar helps make them whiter while clothes come out smelling fresher and looking more colorful.
  • A clogged sink: If you have a clogged sink, pour 1/4 cup of baking soda down the drain. Next, add a cup of vinegar, then cover the drain tightly and wait for the two compounds to power out the clogs. Repeat the process if the drain does not clear out completely.
  • Strong odors: Vinegar is excellent for removing strong odors such as smoke or pet smells. Leave a bowl of vinegar overnight, and the smells will disappear.
